Hillary Clinton Sticks with Facebook Twitter and YouTube

Hillary_2016_Presidential_RaceOkay, the big 2016 presidential announcement is now officially in the books. Hillary Clinton is running for President in 2016. When the announcement took place, her staff posted a two-minute video to introduce her campaign and posted it on social media for the world to absorb it. A+ for effort and attention grabbing. After watching the video, people who are interested in learning more about Mrs. Clinton went to her website at www.hillaryclinton.com. Her website asks for your email address and zip code to join her on her journey. If you wanted to follow her through social media you probably also noticed the Facebook, Twitter and YouTube icons to the middle right of her website’s homepage. It looks like she’s sticking with the top three social media avenues and did not include: Pinterest, Google+ or Instagram. Does that mean that the other social media networks are not big enough or good enough to include in a presidential campaign? What about LinkedIn where millions of  U.S. business people congregate on a daily basis? Maybe there will be something included on these other social networks in the future, but for now she’s sticking with the big ones.

Do you think Hillary and other Presidential candidates should be promoting their campaigns on other social media networks as well? What do you think?

Making Fun of Social Media with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and More

Vintage Social Networking cartoon - SocialMediaTAB.com

Vintage Social Networking cartoon – SocialMediaTAB.com

One way to get people’s attention in the social media business is to draw a cartoon about it. If your cartoon happens to be making fun of all the top social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Skype, Instagram, Foursquare, WordPress, Reddit, and any others, it will be a hit. This particular cartoon made its debut a few years ago and it’s still making the rounds in social media posts, walls and photos. What’s your favorite item in this cartoon??? We’d love to hear your opinion. And, if you create your own social media cartoon, send it to us. We’d love to feature it on our homepage.

Pinterest To Test Advertisement Pins – Awaiting Your Comments

Pinterest - SocialMediaTAB.com

Pinterest – SocialMediaTAB.com

In a recent letter sent to all of their members, Pinterest explained that they want to be a profitable company and be here for years to come. You knew this was coming and no one should be shocked. It should all be taken in and accepted. Pinterest (launched March 2010) has grown very rapidly over the past few years.  Pinterest had more than 11.7 million unique users as of January 2012 and became the fastest site in history to break through the 10 million unique visitor mark. According to ComScore’s most recent numbers as of February 2013, Pinterest had 48.7 million users globally. So, now their business needs some help to keep things moving along nicely. After all, you’ve been pinning your wishlists and photos for free, right? If a few promoted pins start showing up, it could offer even more ideas. Here’s a copy of the most recent letter sent to its users in case you didn’t read it or receive it.

Just over a year ago, my wife and I welcomed our son into the world. Since his first day, I’ve been pinning fun things we can do together, right now while he’s still littleand later when he gets older. I know many of you do the same. Pinterest is where you keep your wishlists, vacation plans, dream home ideas, and other things you want to do soon and in the future. That’s why for us, it’s so important that Pinterest is a service that will be here to stay. To help make sure it does, we’re going to start experimenting with promoting certain pins from a select group of businesses.

I know some of you may be thinking, “Oh great…here come the banner ads.” But we’re determined to not let that happen. While we haven’t figured out all the details, I can say that promoted pins will be:

  • Tasteful—No flashy banners or pop-up ads.
  • Transparent—We’ll always let you know if someone paid for what you see, or where you see it.
  • Relevant—These pins should be about stuff you’re actually interested in, like a delicious recipe, or a jacket that’s your style.
  • Improved based on your feedback—Keep letting us know what you think, and we’ll keep working to make things better.

For our first test, we’ll promote a few pins in search results and category feeds. For example, a pin for a Darth Vader outfit from a costume shop might be promoted in a search for “halloween.” Nobody’s paying for anything yet—we want to see how things go and, more than anything, hear what you think.

Thanks so much for all your support these first few years, and we hope you’ll keep pinning with us for many years to come!

All the best,

SO, there you have it people. What do you think of Pinterest’s new move to keep their site growing and moving to the next level? Will you continue to be a pinner? Please comment below…

How Pinterest Can Help Improve Your Life

by  By Amy Hourigan

Pinterest - SocialMediaTAB.com

Pinterest – SocialMediaTAB.com

I seriously wonder how we ever survived without the wonders of the Internet. We have access to information that we could spend a lifetime absorbing and never even penetrate the surface.

Our every thought and need is covered somewhere online. There is a website or blog covering every single thing you can imagine; recipes, house and garden, quotes, fashion, craft and blogs.

So how do we organise and contain all this information? How do we keep track of all our favourite ideas in one place?

Well my place of ___ Pinterest.

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. It allows you to ‘pin’ your favourite web pages to your aesthetically pleasing pinboard. You can group your pins onto your pinboards by topic, making finding them again a breeze.

My Pinterest account’s most useful feature is my recipe pinboards. Note the plural. Not just one pinboard for recipes but several. My recipes are sorted into genres: Asian, paleo, clean eating, desserts, easy quick meals, birthday party treats and more. In fact, I got rid of most of my cookbooks as Pinterest has everything I need from the easiest pancake recipe to the most elaborate birthday cakes.

My kids are science mad so I have a pinboard dedicated to quick and easy science experiments that we can do from home. Instead of sifting through Google searches every time we want to make some science mess, I have loads of ideas all there ready for the science mood to hit (which it does at the most inopportune of moments).

Special thanks to Parent Well being for sharing this info. For more please click here.

I Love Pinterest – 5 Tips and Resources

By Nicolette Roux, The Blog Hangout

5-Pinterest-tips-and-resourcesToday I would like to share a few Tips and Resources I have found most helpful the last few months.

1. The Right Type of Content and Pictures.

If you are writing a post that you think is good for Pinterest traffic, make sure you have good clear instructions (if you are making something) AND good pictures that are bright, “happy” and just well pinnable.

You should add an image to every blog post, check out Flickr if you need to, remember to give credit and make sure you are not “stealing” images. Taller is better, Just take a look at what draws your attention when you browse Pinterest, the tiny pics you barely see or the bigger longer ones?

 2. Make Sure Your Blog is Pinterest Ready

Set up a handy “Pin” button near your image or in your share buttons, encouraging the visitor to pin. Having to look for a pin button will result in no pins! Checkout various plugins that add the hover pin on your images and be sure to add descriptive “alt” text on your images, this is what gets pinned.

This also goes for any images you pin from other blogs, make sure the description that you pin actually says what the pin is. Good for searches.

Visit the Pinterest goodies section here.

3. Pimp Your Pinterest

Make yourself a dedicated board for your blog and always pin your post there first then into other places. This is the “original pin” and what will get you some followers down the line.

G Use Social Media To Plant Trees, Vegetables, and Fruits Today

Grow a Plant Today! - SocialMediaTAB.com

Grow a Plant Today! – SocialMediaTAB.com

Okay. We know that plants, vegetables, fruits and trees are healthy for the environment, right? We also know that eating most fruits and vegetables can give us great vitamins and minerals to improve our bodies. There’s another thing that people don’t realize about plants. When driving, walking or jogging through a heavily wooded area or an area filled with lots of plants you’ll notice one thing right away – a cooler temperature. However, the most important things about the trees, plants and vegetation, is that they all give off oxygen!! Human’s need oxygen (O2) to survive and plants give us a vital O2 ingredient we need.

Going one step further, humans disperse carbon dioxide (C20), while plants eat it up. They love it. The human-plant connection is a perfect relationship.

So, what does this have to do with social media? A lot! Through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr, you can build your knowledge of plants and trees and connect with others who are in the same boat as you. Socialize with others who have done some planting and ask questions or comment on what they’re doing. To get you started, here are some links to various social media pages and boards. After you connect with a few people, tell them where you heard about it (from SocialMediaTAB.com) and drop us a comment or email. We would love to hear how you’re doing in the plant world. – Doug Kale
